Bye, Bye Bottles!

I took Reese's bottles away from her on Christmas Eve. She was sick last week and drinking Pedialyte from a sippy cup first thing in the morning, so I thought that, like Riley, this would be a good transition time. Before this, Reese would not drink milk from a cup. I was right, she transitioned perfectly, she drinks both milk and juice from a sippy cup.

In addition, on Christmas, Reese learned to drink from a straw. Up to this point she has tried and not been able to, but really wanting to because that is the way that Riley drinks. She finally put it all together on Christmas with her uncle and a juice box.

Update

Last week, Reese had a virus. She had a fever for 4 days and when Mommy took her to the doctor, she had another ear infection, this time the left ear. She is on the mend now and enjoying time with our family.

This is Reese's second Christmas, and I think that she will have more fun this year. She enjoyed unrolling the wrapping paper on the floor and then sitting in the middle of it. Of course, all my gifts look like I recycled wrapping paper because the paper was so wrinkled! But, why waste paper!

Blue Light

I changed Reese's nightlight from a regular nightlight to one that is blue. We were at the store and I needed to get another nightlight for Riley, so as I was looking in the nightlight section, they have these blue ones that claim to last 25 years, and you don't have to change the bulb, which was a big plus for me! Riley really likes blue, and since they came in packs of two and Reese is starting to take the cover off of her regular one, I replaced hers too.

I think that it has made a difference in her sleeping through the night. It is like the bright light made her think that it was time to cry for me, but the blue light seems to make her go back to sleep on her own. Of course, it could be just her changing in her ways and growing older.

Cling Spot

It is amazing to me that Reese still really likes to be with people even in her sleep. She has been like this since the day she was born. She has to be rocked to sleep and to some extent I think she still misses my heartbeat from when she was in the womb. Last night, Riley crawled into bed with me at 4:30am, and shortly after that, Reese started crying from her bed. I went to pick her up and put her in my bed, and she cuddled up right on me and went to sleep. If I changed positions, she had to move and be right next to me.

She idolizes her brother and if he is already asleep, she will crawl up next to him and sleep with her head touching his. It is very cute to watch, and she somehow seems to sleep better when she is with others.

She was christened the Cling Spot the first day that she attended day care. I told the teacher that she liked to be carried or else would hold onto my legs if put down, and the teacher said that she was a cling spot, huh, and so she came to be. Now, that she is walking really steadily, she is always on the go, the Energizer Bunny, just keeps going and going, but if someone strange comes up or just because, she will cling to my leg to be picked up when she is done.

Adjustment to Day Care

Reese started day care in October. At first, she would not play with the other kids and had to be either in the swing or the high chair in order to be away from them and the teachers. I knew that sometimes she would rather you let her cry by herself than be comforted by someone she did not know. She was like this with her teachers at first. She would not let them hold her and she would just suck away at her bink.

Now, she likes the teachers and eats at school. She plays with the other kids sometimes and will sometimes just go off by herself. If something frustrates her, she will suck away at the bink. She is use to her classroom now, but does not like it if other teachers or older kids come in. The teachers say she will just go and find a quiet corner to sit in if there are extra kids.

Elmo Makes Music

Reese loves Elmo. When he is on TV, she just sits and watches. If she sees him in a book, she will keep flipping though that book and carry that book around with her. She will also carry the DVD box with Elmo on it around and try to put his DVD into the DVD player. La La is her name for Elmo. We think that she likes Elmo because he is red, and she has always been attracted to things that are red.

A few weeks ago, Yai Yai found out that Elmo was coming to town. She offered to buy tickets for us to see Elmo Makes Music and so that is where we went yesterday. Reese absolutely loved the show! She was standing in my lap or in Daddy's arms almost the whole time. She would clap and move to the music. She was enchanted!

Seeing her almost made me wish that I had taken her brother when he was younger, but I am not sure that he would have enjoyed it as much as she did. We all had a great day and a great time seeing Elmo and his friends.
